COMM #3 Information for attendees of the 2020 National Specialty, May 3 – 9, 2020
We strive to provide a complete and well thought out response before posting any communication. We know there are many questions. We appreciate your patience while we develop this guidance.
Our foremost concern is, and always will be for the health and welfare of our members, attendees, their families and friends. As the situation of the global pandemic has changed from day to day, the Task Force and BMDCA Board have been in constant communication. Last night, while we were on a Conference call, the CDC made the recommendation for the next eight weeks, that organizations should cancel all events of 50 or more people, starting immediately. In light of this new recommendation, the BMDCA Board and the NS committee have determined it is in the best interest of all to cancel the May 2020 National Specialty. This decision was not made lightly. Even prior to the CDC announcement we were balancing how to have the Specialty while keeping our members in higher risk categories safe and being socially responsible to prevent spread of the COVID-19.
Information on canceling Registration items will be forth coming. However, you should cancel your dog show entries now; we cannot do this. For AKC events, you will find information on the RauDogShows home page at the bottom of the page https://www.raudogshows.com/ Additional information for Herding and Drafting will be forthcoming.
If the hotel reservation was made via the BMDCA portal, your hotel reservation for May has been taken care of. If you made reservations outside the BMDCA portal, you must cancel them.
As we share this disappointing news, we also had the stars align for us this morning. We found that the Marriott Hunt Valley Inn is able to accommodate our event from September 13 through the 20th. We will be sending out a vote to the membership and attendees to determine if there is interest in having the 2020 Specialty in September. There are many details to work out; new AKC applications, other venues’ ability to accommodate those events not held at the Host Hotel, Judge schedules, etc. If the interest is there, we will work on the other logistics of changing the dates so we can put on a National Specialty. There are many details that we need to consider. We will apprise all of the details as this unfolds.
